We are so thankful to Dr. Silber and his amazing team for making our dream to have children come true!
After years of unsuccessful conception, my husband and I decided to see a specialist. I underwent countless tests involving procedures, imaging, bloodwork etc.., trying to understand “why”. To this day, we still do not have an answer and were ultimately diagnosed with “unexplained infertility”. We began a long process of fertility treatments. When none of these efforts were successful, we decided to take a more aggressive approach with IVF. Unfortunately, we suffered two failed attempts. My husband asked the doctor if we should consider egg donation and she said yes, but the problem could be the sperm, we just don’t know. We needed a second opinion.
We had heard wonderful things about Infertility Center of St. Louis and Dr. Silber. During our initial consultation, my husband, again, asked about egg donation. Dr. Silber immediately dismissed the suggestion of egg donation in our case. He went on to explain the results of my ultrasound identified a lower than average amount of follicle reserves. While this is not the reason we weren’t conceiving (I was ovulating at every cycle), it does affect how he’d choose to treat us (to stimulate my follicles). He explained how traditional IVF stimulant medications tend produce good results in women with a higher follicle reserve counts; however, treating a patient like myself with traditional IVF, typically results in less follicles with little hope for achieving the goal – a few undamaged, quality follicles. This is exactly what happened during our 2 IVF attempts before going to Dr. Silber.
It was then Dr. Silber introduced us to Mini IVF (please see Dr. Silber’s information on his website explaining Mini IVF). The results by far surpassed our hopes. Basically, I was on a much lower dose of stimulants to preserve follicle quality. Mini IVF can take 2 or 3 cycles of stimulation to produce 2 to 3 quality embryos. Thankfully, we had 7 high quality embryos on the first try! The embryos were frozen with 2 successful transfers occurring three months later, and 2 years later.
We cannot thank Dr. Silber and his team enough for their support, encouragement, and for introducing an individualized approach. A special thank you to Dena, our IVF coordinator as she was outstanding and super supportive throughout the whole process. We also would like to thank Dr. Michael DeRosa, who was involved in our retrieval with Dr. Silber and who delivered our son, Tristan.
Dr. Silber and his team made our family possible! We thank God everyday for bringing him into our lives and giving us our sweet babies!
Infertile patients cannot afford to wait for treatment while their eggs get older.
Dr. Sherman Silber, Infertility Center of St. Louis, is offering video consultations for patients who need to plan now for their treatment while stay-at-home orders are in place. He is talking to and evaluating patients in their home to comply with social distancing measures.
Dr. Silber is discovering that patients actually prefer this method of telemedicine consultation over the conventional office visit. Patients have conveyed that “it is so much more convenient and less stressful” to have a telemedicine personal consultation than to take a day off from work to travel to the doctor’s office and sit with other nervous patients in the waiting room.
The COVID-19 pandemic is thus changing much of the way we will do things in the future, and for the better. “Our patients are surprisingly much happier with this approach. Of course, at some point we need to perform hands on treatment. But with this new manner of seeing patients, we can come to the right diagnosis and treatment plan for most patients more efficiently, quickly, and painlessly, with no loss of personal one-on-one communication.” This is a very welcome new era of telemedicine that has been forced on us by the current difficult times.
